*CLOSED* Giveaway: Civ V Gold Edition

First I want to apologize for no posts since my Monaco giveaway. It’s been a very hectic month to say the least and when I had time, I just didn’t have the brain power to think through a gaming post. Djpimpdaddy won the giveaway last month and although I failed to update the blog, he does have the game. So, let’s get on with this month’s giveaway, Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gold Edition (This edition isn’t available for sale on Steam anymore, likely having been placed with the Complete Edition, so I’ve liked to the Civ V Steam page).

I’ve recently gotten myself addicted all over again to playing Sid Meier’s Civilization V for several reasons. I love god-games! I find it incredibly fun to build up a world/civilization/island country (whathaveyou) and progress through the eras, hopefully for a very prosperous outcome. I also love turn-based games that allow me to step away from my computer for anywhere from a few moments to a few hours without having to close the game and restart it. Last night I had a game of Civ V going, waiting on me to make my next turn, while I was in the living room watching the telly for a good three hours! The game was right where I left off when I got back … I wasn’t logged out, dead, defeated, conquered, nothing. It’s like a sort of ‘pause’ feature!

I also LOVE interacting with a seemingly random set of consequences and actions! A couple of days ago I was playing through a Civ V game when Hiawatha decided to launch a sneak attack against me. Or so I thought. Another leader, Askia, contacted me out of the blue and warned me that his spies had discovered the dirty sneak plan against me. I immediately started moving troops around to protect my borders when Hiawatha contacted me to request that we make a declaration of friendship. Confused, I agreed and then discovered the reason behind Askia’s warning. Hiawatha was about to wage war on Askia and, I believe, Askia was trying to use me as a distraction. If I were to denounce and or try to attack Hiawatha, it’d buy Askia more time to avoid war. Another game one of my best allies was Genghis Khan. Right up until he asked me for silver and I declined. He decided that was all the excuse he needed to wage war on me. You never know what Civilization to trust or how your actions will be taken!

I’m going to start a brand new game today. I had a great one going yesterday but when I realized I’d goofed and wouldn’t be able to finish the tech tree the way I wanted, I retired that game. Djpimpdaddy, on seeing me playing Civ V, sent me a message over Steam saying, basically, that he’d seen quite a few of his friends fall into the Civ V trap. I can see that as this game is very addictive and I’d read where some have over 1000 hours of playtime logged! Replay value with this game is HIGH!

How utterly cool is that???

Before anyone asks, this giveaway does NOT include the Brave New Worlds expansion pack. I understand some are upset that I don’t give away all the DLC for the games I do giveaway but, for the record, I do this, these giveaways, out of my own pocket, based on what I can get via Steam sales. I do this because I think it’s fun and I want to give back or pay it forward, so to speak. I’ve had people gift me games before and it’s a great feeling! What’s more, with this particular giveaway, I don’t have the Brave New Worlds expansion yet and, if I had the money for it, I’d get it for me first, not you. 😛

So, how does this giveaway work you ask?

  • You have to have Steam to play the game as I’ll be gifting the winner the game through Steam. There will be instructions in the email explaining how to download Steam in case you don’t have it already. Steam is a free download.
  • The winner will have to use a valid email address when commenting (not IN the comment itself, just in the input box you have to fill out TO comment so it’s kept private) so I can send the download link for the game. I won’t sell or give your email address to anyone, promise. If you’re signed in to WordPress when you comment make sure the email associated with your WordPress profile is a valid one that you can check.
  • You have to leave a comment on this post in order for me to enter you into a random draw to win the game.
  • Oh, and you need an internet connection to download the game.

– You don’t have to be my Steam friend in order for me to gift the game to you because Steam allows for people to send gifts to email addresses, not just through the client. If you want to add me as a Steam friend, that’s cool. Not required though.

– I will assign each person who comments a number and then enter the numbers in a Random Number Generator to determine the winner. Multiple comments from the same person won’t increase your chances of winning. In other words, if you comment 187 times you’re still only getting one entry number assigned to you.

This giveaway starts as soon as I publish this post (11AM CST on 05/01/14) and runs through Wednesday night (05/07/14 midnight CST ). I will then use the RNG linked above to draw a winner. I’ll email the winner and if I haven’t heard from them by Friday night I’ll draw for a new winner over the weekend (shooting for Saturday morning 05/10/14 should there be a need to redraw). I really don’t like announcing who’s won on here (my blog) before hearing back from the winner but will do so Thursday evening if I haven’t heard from them. Sound fair?

Comment below to enter for a chance to win and good luck!

Editing to add: Giveaway is closed and a winner has been notified. Just waiting to hear from them!

  1. Oh wow, what an amazing contest! Good luck everyone who enters! (Of course I’m rooting for me… I love all of the expansions it comes with!)

  2. I was a fan of Civ IV, great game. But for some reason, I never played Civ V, even though it looks good. Thanks for the contest. Good luck to all.

  3. CivV is indeed a superb game, not to be missed. I’ll drop my name into the contest hat! Along with my Steam ID: http://steamcommunity.com/id/JimMoreno/

  4. I only have the basic Civ V so I’d love to have all the extras here! I do appreciate your ability to offer people the chance to experience great games and I applaud you heartily for it. If I ever get the chance to “pay it forward” it will be because of you.

  5. Civ V is a fantastic addition to the Civilation collection. Now matter how hard I try to progress through the game and handle each nation I play differently I also end up up the space race. I can never get myself to battle it out with the remaining nations.
